Belated Happy New Year

Belated Happy New Year

I posted this a few months ago on Facebook as a New Year's message. Now I'm here on Ghost I have stopped posting stuff there. Got a few more things I might bring over though. I like this one, thought it was worth posting here:

In summer 2024 I took up drawing, a pastime I have come to enjoy a lot. Much like writing, when I sit down to draw a picture I have no idea how it will turn out. This is my rendition of a bike used as a driveway marker in Winnipeg Beach. It can be found along highway 9 on the lake side of the road. The shrub behind it is my take on a potentilla John and I planted in his front yard several years ago. The first few summers saw a small handful of blooms. I said to John we should transplant it where it would get more sun. He thought we should leave it, that what it needed was to just take root. He was right, last summer it had 20 plus blooms. The foliage behind the bike was drawn during a visit to The Leaf conservatory with friend Willow, an artist who knows more than a thing or two about drawing, is generous in sharing pointers and techniques with me and is always encouraging me in my pursuit. The bird is a cutout of an attempt at drawing a chickadee but the outsize tail makes me think it's more a chickadee/magpie hybrid. It was intended for another picture but turned out not to fit. The empty space in the upper left corner of this one needed something so there's the bird.

Happy New Year to all. Going in we don't know how it will turn out, though I think it's safe to say it's going to be kooky.
